Felix Velarde background and short biography

Brief biography

In 1994 I started one of the first specialist digital creative companies, Hyperinteractive, and my next, Head New Media, became the digital arm of what is now MullenLowe Profero. This led to a career as an industry leader and founder of several innovative digital creative and strategy agencies, including being chairman at pioneering eCRM firm Underwired and CEO of The Conversation Group.

Along the way I acquired an unusual amount of M&A experience, so some of my work involves advising owners on how to prepare for sale and how to get the best possible multiple on exit. I’ve given more than a hundred keynotes and speeches (you can book me here
), and was an Adjunct Professor at Hult International Business School on its MBA and International Masters programmes.

In 2016 I joined the organising team of People-Centered Internet, chaired by the Internet’s co-inventor and architect Vint Cerf and co-founded by CRM pioneer Mei Lin Fung.

In 2015 I switched focus to helping entrepreneurs as a growth-oriented chair and non-executive director working with agencies and tech startups. My consulting work focuses on how to maximise exit value and all aspects of M&A.

In 2016 I founded (and now chair) the 2Y3X programme, a two-year growth acceleration programme for agencies that want to scale fast. 2Y3X operates in the United Kingdom and USA.

The manual and how-to guide for the programme, Scale at Speed (more on the dedicated website), is published in paperback, Audible, Kindle, Kobo, Google Book and Apple Book formats. Buy it on Amazon here.

In 2022 I co-founded AVA Acquisitions with Peter Lang and Tom Shipley. AVA is building an agency network around programmatic M&A and programmatic scaling (profit growth is roughly 50% per year), and is based in Austin, Texas.

A fun interview

“I worked with Felix for just over a year and it changed my career and business forever. If I had to point to one thing, it would be, I believe that Felix taught me how to think and how to design strategy. We were a successful company before and we are so afterwards but now we are organised, strategic, purposeful and ultimately ready to continue scaling in an organised and efficient manner.”

Chris Donnelly, CEO, Verb Brands
