Felix Velarde background and short biography

Brief biography

In 1994 I started one of the first specialist digital creative companies, Hyperinteractive, and my next, Head New Media, became the digital arm of what is now MullenLowe Profero. This led to a career as an industry leader and founder of several innovative digital creative and strategy agencies, including being chairman at pioneering eCRM firm Underwired and CEO of The Conversation Group.

Along the way I acquired an unusual amount of M&A experience, so some of my work involves advising owners on how to prepare for sale and how to get the best possible multiple on exit. I’ve given what feels like a zillion keynotes (book me!
), and was an Adjunct Professor at Hult International Business School on its MBA and International Masters programmes.

In 2016 I joined the organising team of People-Centered Internet, chaired by the Internet’s co-inventor and architect Vint Cerf and co-founded by CRM pioneer Mei Lin Fung.

In 2015 I switched focus to helping entrepreneurs like me. I am now practical, growth-oriented chairman and non-executive director working (mainly) with agencies and tech startups. My consultancy work focuses on agency proposition development, strategic growth planning, how to maximise exit value, and M&A including preparation, negotiation strategies and due diligence.

I’m a co-founder of the 2Y3X programme, a two-year growth acceleration programme for companies in a variety of sectors who’ve hit a barrier but want to scale fast. 2Y3X operates in the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, across the Middle East and in the USA and Canada.

The manual and how-to guide for the programme, Scale at Speed (more on the dedicated website), was published in June in the UK by Little, Brown and in the US by Hachette. Please do buy your copy here.

Outside of work I’m an adventurer, photographer and regular crew member at Sharkey’s Bar & Lounge at Burning Man.
