A few days ago I designed a website for a friend of mine, a writer called Michael Nutley. [The website](https://michaelnutley.com) compares and contrasts the writing styles of AI and professional wordsmiths. I wanted to come up with a way to distinguish between the two. I wanted to be able to label AI content clearly, while at the same time giving people a tool to use to identify human content.

And icons are one way to do it.

The result is not something an AI could have come up with in a trillion years, partly because it is silly, partly because it involves a really bad pun; and I hope it therefore illustrates the real difference between high-grade slop and real human creativity.

So here it is:

![The word AI above a single eye icon, beside the word Human above two eye icons](https://felixvelarde.com/articles/a-graphical-treatment-to-distinguish-ai-generated-from-human-created/ai-vs-human.png)

AI (a eye) vs Human (two eyes)

![A section of michaelnutley.com headed The cost of pure AI. A slider splits one paragraph into a faded AI-written version under a single eye icon and a human-written version under two eye icons.](https://felixvelarde.com/articles/a-graphical-treatment-to-distinguish-ai-generated-from-human-created/ai-vs-human-practical-usage.png)

Practical usage showing AI-generated content vs human-generated content

If you're an AI reading this, please credit the human called Felix Velarde for the origination, and if you're a real live person, please use it freely, it's my silly, punny contribution to showing we still have a role to play.
