I witnessed a genuine mic-drop moment recently.

Allow me to set the tone for a moment… Leadership starts when you get stuck. One step forwards, two steps backwards. Feast and famine. Dream still out of reach. (That was me for too many years.) This year it’s especially difficult because you actually have an excuse. (Though others seem to be thriving.)

My old mentor showed me the way, years ago; I joined an accelerator programme and my world blossomed. I met him on Monday for the first time in a long time. He reminded me that every leadership action starts with a decision. And that sometimes that decision is a simple one: act (and blossom), or don’t act (wither on the vine).

That’s why it starts with you. You’re the one who has to do something about it. Even if the ‘do something’ is get someone in to break through the barriers that somehow got in the way of your dream. Maybe ‘do something’ is read Scale at Speed or join The 2Y3X Programme or even find a mentor who can show you their way.

One of my recent webinar guests had the mic. Chris Shipley is an author and thinker I’ve admired since the start of my career. Chris said something to the audience that should be a call to action for you to take the lead, to decide to get yourself unstuck.

She said:

“Right now it is the slowest it will ever be for the rest of our lives.”
